On Wednesday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, held a crucial meeting with ministers to discuss the proposed nationwide protest against economic hardship planned by Nigerian youths.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, saw the attendance of over 40 ministers from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Prominent ministers present at the meeting included Nyesom Wike (FCT), Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Zephaniah Jisalo (Special Duties), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abubakar Bagudu (Budget and Planning), Wale Edun (Finance), Mohammed Idris (Information), Bello Matawalle (Defence), David Umahi (Works), and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to reconsider the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest, which is set for next month.

Despite his appeal, the protest is gaining significant traction on social media and is scheduled to take place across all states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in August. The organizers of the protest have remained anonymous.
The call for the protest comes as Nigerians face escalating prices of food and basic commodities amidst one of the worst inflation and economic crises in the country’s history.
This situation has been exacerbated by the government’s recent policies, including the removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of forex windows.
The government’s urgent meeting reflects the gravity of the situation as it seeks to address the concerns of the youth and mitigate the economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.
