Ahead of the proposed hardship protest on August 1, 2024, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of protesters and both public and private properties.
In a statement made in Abuja on Thursday, NHRC Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu emphasized the importance of avoiding actions that could undermine the country’s democracy. He reiterated that federal and state governments have an obligation to facilitate peaceful assemblies and ensure full protection for those participating.

The commission stressed that through dialogue, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law, grievances can be addressed while maintaining public order.
The #EndBadGovernance protests, which have been gaining momentum on social media, are scheduled to take place from August 1 to August 10.
