On Wednesday, a minor fire incident occurred at the effluent treatment plant of the Dangote Refinery located in Lagos. The fire was swiftly extinguished by firefighters and first responders, ensuring no significant damage or disruption to operations.
Viral videos captured the incident, showing thick plumes of smoke rising from the facility situated at the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos. Despite the alarming visuals, a company spokesman, Anthony Chiejina, reassured the public that the refinery’s operations remained unaffected.
“There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty,” Chiejina stated.

The $20 billion facility, owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote, began operations in December last year with a capacity of 350,000 barrels per day.
It aims to reach its full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day by the end of this year. The refinery has already started supplying diesel and aviation fuel to marketers in Nigeria, with petrol supply expected to commence by mid-July.
