Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted two Nigerian journalists and their family members in Kaduna State.
The incident occurred in Danhonu community in Millennium City, Chikun local government area.
The victims include Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe, a reporter for The Nation newspaper and the current chairman of the correspondent’s chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, and AbdulRaheem Aodu, a reporter for Blueprint Newspaper.
The assailants invaded the area around 10:30 pm, shooting indiscriminately before raiding the houses of the journalists. Alabelewe, his wife, and two of his children were abducted, while Aodu and his wife, who was also sick, were taken, leaving their ill daughter behind.

According to Taofeeq Olayemi, a family member of one of the victims, the bandits forcibly entered the houses by breaking doors and windows.
They initially took Alabelewe, his wife, three children, and a girl staying with them, but later allowed the girl and one child to return, leaving with Alabelewe, his wife, and two children.
The bandits also broke into Aodu’s home, abducting him and his wife. They escaped before local vigilantes arrived and began shooting into the air.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, has not yet provided a comment on the incident.
