Armed individuals have abducted Mr. Joshua Rogers, a reporter for Channels Television, from his home in Rumuosi, located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The kidnapping occurred around 9 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
Mr. Rogers, assigned to cover the Rivers State Government House, was apparently followed to his residence after concluding his workday.
Before he could exit his vehicle, the attackers confronted him, brandished a firearm, and forcibly took him and his car to an undisclosed location, also around 9 pm.
An anonymous source revealed that Mr. Rogers had attended an event in Ndoni, within the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara inaugurated a Primary Healthcare Centre.
The facility, constructed and donated by the PAMO Educational Foundation established by ex-Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, was unveiled on Thursday.
The source confirmed, “He was abducted last night at his residence in Rumuosi and taken in his vehicle by unidentified gunmen.
We urge the kidnappers to release him immediately and unharmed. He is merely a journalist performing his duties, not a wealthy individual.
The motive behind his kidnapping is unclear.” Furthermore, it has been reported that the criminals have demanded a ransom of N30m from his wife for his release.
Channels TV has not yet issued an official statement; however, his cameraman has verified the incident.
DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the State Police Public Relations Officer, was contacted on Friday morning but did not confirm or deny the abduction.
