The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Maitama has ordered the remand of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This decision was made during Bello’s arraignment on charges related to an alleged ₦110 billion fraud.
The EFCC had urged the court to deny the former governor bail, arguing that his release could impede the investigation and prosecution of the case. Bello faces a 16-count charge alongside two others, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, accused of misappropriation and financial mismanagement during his administration.
Appearing in court dressed in a white kaftan and blue cap, Bello’s demeanor suggested calm as he listened to the proceedings. His co-defendants had earlier been granted administrative bail, but the EFCC insisted that Bello remain in custody due to the gravity of the allegations against him.
