The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed today the arrest of popular Nigerian social media influencer and cross-dresser, Bobrisky, following his refusal to comply with an official summons. According to the EFCC, Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, was invited to clarify statements in which he claimed to have bribed certain officials to avoid prosecution for alleged financial misconduct.
The EFCC noted that despite repeated invitations, Bobrisky declined to name any officials or provide evidence to substantiate his claims.
The EFCC’s statement underscores the agency’s dedication to accountability within its ranks and its intolerance for any allegations of internal corruption without proof. Authorities have indicated that the arrest was necessary to support the ongoing investigation, and they urge public figures to avoid making unfounded allegations without cooperating with legal protocols.
Further details on the charges and proceedings will be disclosed as the investigation unfolds.
