The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) welcomed a 12-person delegation from Benin Republic’s Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) to its headquarters in Abuja on Monday for an educational visit.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, was on hand to greet the visiting team, which was headed by CENA President, Sacca Lafia, and included national commissioners, directors, and senior staff members.

The primary aim of the visit, as outlined by Lafia, is to glean insights into Nigeria’s electoral methodologies and best practices. This knowledge transfer is crucial as Benin Republic gears up for its significant elections scheduled for 2026.

In his address, Yakubu emphasized the significance of this exchange. He noted that CENA had expressed keen interest in understanding various aspects of Nigerian elections:

- Operational Logistics: Including the recruitment and training of poll officials, budgeting, and payment systems.

Yakubu further mentioned that INEC has organized a comprehensive program for the delegation, ensuring they receive briefings from various departments within the Commission. He stressed the mutual benefits of peer learning and pledged full transparency by providing access to relevant documents and experiences to aid CENA in their preparations for the 2026 elections.
