Fego Ayetuoma, a young tennis player, advanced to the quarter-finals of the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior J30 Abuja on Wednesday, securing a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bisola Ogunkolade in the female singles category.
The tournament is being held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and is the second leg of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) event, which began on February 19 and is expected to end on Sunday.
Throughout the match’s round of 16, Ayetuoma maintained the pressure on Ogunkolade, hitting a series of forehand winners.
Although Ogunkolade fought back in the second set, Ayetuoma remained focused and wrapped up the set in 46 minutes with another well-targeted forehand, ending the match with a 6-2 score.
Following her victory, Ayetuoma expressed delight with her performance and looked forward to the next game.
She acknowledged that this was her first match at the tournament and felt happy to have won against a player she was better than.
She is determined to continue making progress and improving as the tournament progresses.
Ayetuoma’s next opponent is Khadijat Mohammed, who defeated Etoro Bassey (6-3,6-1) to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
In other rounds of 16 singles matches, Blessing Otu defeated Faith Adeusi (6-1,6-2), Toluwalashe Agunbiade humbled Fareehah Adams (6-1,6-1), and Khadijat Mohammed overpowered Etoro Bassey (6-3,6-1).
