The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment and resolve to completely defeat insurgents, marauding bandits, and all other forms of external and internal aggression that disrupt the nation’s peace.
Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja conveyed this assurance in his Easter Message to the troops and the families of the Nigerian Army personnel on Sunday in Abuja.
He called upon all officers and soldiers to dedicate the season to prayers for sustained operational triumphs and to continue embodying the values and virtues of love, peace, and sacrifice in fulfilling their constitutional duties.
The COAS stated that he has been instrumental in the execution of quality training and provisioning, aimed at countering the plethora of security challenges facing the country.
He stated that under his command, the Nigerian army has consistently achieved significant successes in various operations both domestically and internationally, notably in the ongoing Operation Hadin Kai in the Northeast and other nationwide internal security operations.
“As we advance towards the ultimate confrontation with the foes that plague our nation, I assure you that the well-being of our officers and soldiers, including their training and equipping, will remain a top priority to ensure the effective fulfillment of our constitutional duties.
“I would like to take this moment to recognize and express my gratitude to you, my officers and soldiers, for your tenacity in addressing the myriad of security challenges that afflict our nation.
“Your dedication, bravery, resilience, and professionalism have been evident. For this, I commend you and urge you not to relent until we have eradicated all threats to our nation.
“While we mourn the recent unjust and horrific killing of our comrades in the Okuama Community of Delta on March 14, I call on you all to stay resolute, diligent, and committed to performing our constitutional responsibilities.
“I encourage you to continue praying for the eternal peace of our fallen colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice for the noble cause of safeguarding our cherished country.
“I am committed to continually prioritizing the welfare of our officers, soldiers, and their families, including those of our fallen comrades,” he declared.
Lagbaja also urged personnel to utilize the Easter celebration as a time to pray against all negative forces that undermine the peace and development of the nation.
He also expressed hope that the spiritual discipline of the Lenten Season and the insights gained would instill in them an enhanced fervor and commitment to their constitutional obligations.
