In a fresh attack by armed herders in Ogwumogbo, Ikpele and Ejima communities in Agatu Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State, eight persons were reportedly killed.
The attack is the latest strike, as armed herders had previously struck the Agatu communities kiling three security personnels and several others.
According to reports, the raid, which occurred between 12 noon and 4pm on Saturday has left several people injured and many others displaced.
It was also reported that the invaders, as in recent cases, attacked the communities from neighbouring Nasarawa State.
Confirming the incident, the lawmaker representing Agatu State Constituency, Mr. Godwin Edoh express regret over the incessant attacks in Agatu communities and villages, adding that thousands of his constituents had been displaced from their homes and villages.
He said, “the herdsmen came again on Saturday and three communities including Ogwumogbo, Ikpele and Ejima were attacked and sacked.
“Eight persons lost their lives in that attack, others sustained injuries and several persons are also missing.
“Despite all our efforts, the killings have persisted. No one is coming to our aid and the government seems quiet. I do not understand this.”
When asked about the incidence, Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene said, “I do not have this report.”
