Amidst soaring inflation, Argentina has unveiled a new 10,000-peso banknote, quintupling the value of its previous largest denomination.
The move aims to streamline transactions as the country battles economic turmoil, with annual inflation approaching 290 percent and poverty impacting nearly half of its population.
Anticipating ongoing challenges, the central bank also announced plans for a 20,000-peso note later this year.
This development follows the introduction of a 2,000-peso bill just a year ago, marking a doubling in value from the previous highest denomination. Argentina, no stranger to high-denomination banknotes, once issued a 1,000,000-peso bill in the 1980s.
