The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a sweeping victory in the just concluded local government council elections in Kogi State, winning all 21 local government chairmanship positions and all 239 councillorship seats.
Mamman Nda-Eri, the chairperson of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), announced the results on Saturday, describing the electoral process as “peaceful, free, and fair.” According to Nda-Eri, APC outperformed the other 18 political parties that participated in the election, leaving no seats unclaimed by the ruling party.
“The results declared at the headquarters were earlier declared at the various collation centers by the respective returning officers,” Nda-Eri said, as quoted by NAN.
He expressed his gratitude to election officials, security personnel, observers, and journalists for their efforts in ensuring a successful electoral process. Nda-Eri also urged the victorious candidates to be magnanimous in their success and to uphold the Supreme Court ruling on local government financial autonomy, emphasizing the importance of good governance.
The KOSIEC chairman further commended all those who contributed to the smooth conduct of the elections.
