The Angolan Embassy in Nigeria is preparing to open a visa and investment center to simplify travel between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Institutional Communication and Press Services of the Embassy, which serves Nigeria, Benin, Niger, and ECOWAS, the center’s launch is aligned with the celebrations for the April 4 Day of Peace and National Reconciliation in Angola.
The statement announced that the Visa Application Center will open on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, eliminating the need for travel to Abuja and Lagos.
In collaboration with Akwa Helmes International Limited (AHIL), a private firm, the center will offer visa application services, investment attraction, support for the oil and gas sector, and promotion of sun, sea, and adventure tourism.
The services will include hotel bookings, ticket sales, and flights to destinations served by Angola’s national airline, TAAG.
The embassy announced that the Governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, will join Ambassador José Zau as a special guest at the inauguration of the center.
The center aims to foster economic, cultural, and tourism ties between Angola and Nigeria.
Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, boasts a population of approximately 10 million and sits at the Niger Delta’s core.
It hosts the primary petroleum and petrochemical industries, two major state-owned refineries, ports, universities, and scientific and technological institutions.
Many professionals in Angola’s oil and gas sector hail from this area. However, local authorities are eager to deepen academic collaboration through training programs and technical internships in the oil and gas sector.
