Officers of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, have apprehended 45 individuals suspected of various crimes throughout the state.
During a parade of the suspects at the agency’s headquarters in Akure on Wednesday, the Commandant of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the arrests included 14 alleged kidnappers.
The remaining suspects were detained for a range of offences including dangerous driving, burglary, illegal grazing, disturbing public peace, and possession of stolen items within the state.
In observance of Eid-el-Fitr, the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has authorized the release of 28 suspects, Adeleye stated. These individuals were identified as first-time offenders whose crimes did not warrant capital punishment.
Adeleye remarked, “Today, we are presenting 45 criminals caught in the act across the 18 LGAs. Just a few weeks prior, we had assured the public of their safety during the festive season.”
“Out of the 45 suspects, there are 14 kidnappers, one case of dangerous driving, five burglaries, two anti-grazing violations, four instances of disturbing public peace, along with theft and possession of stolen goods.
In light of the festive season, the Governor has ordered the release of 28 individuals, identified as first-time offenders not facing capital charges, to their families for rehabilitation, coupled with a stern warning against repeating such offenses. The rest will be subjected to the full force of the law for their crimes, as they have been duly profiled.”

Adeleye added, “In a notable incident, we dismantled a kidnapping ring in Akoko LG. The two kidnap victims and the motorcycle provided to the kidnappers are here with us. In the process of extraction, one kidnapper, who had confessed, was severely injured by an accomplice attempting to conceal the crime.
Corps officers promptly transported the injured kidnapper to a hospital for treatment. He has since provided valuable information. This group has admitted to numerous kidnappings across Akoko, Kogi, and Edo regions. We are actively pursuing their at-large sponsor.”
The head of Ondo Amotekun assured citizens that the corps is committed to ensuring criminals find no sanctuary within the state.”
