The Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has declared Thursday, 22nd and Friday 23rd February public holidays in honour of the late former Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary the governor said in a statement Tuesday, that the two work-free days will allow the people of the State to participate in the burial activities of the former Governor.
Adeniyan added that the burial activities, which started last Thursday will continue in Wednesday, February 21 with Ajabue traditional rites in the late governor’s home town, Owo between 9 am – 4pm.
Later same day, Special Court Session will hold at Court 1, Ondo State High Court Headquarters, Hospital Road, Akure at 10 am
Lying in State and Commendation Service for the late Akeredolu will also hold at Akure Township Stadium by 1pm while Evening of Tributes will hold at St Andrew’s Church, Imola Street, Owo between 4pm – 7pm
On Thursday, February 22 which is the day one of the public holiday, Service of Songs will hold at the same church by 4pm while Wake-Keep will take place at Maranatha Villa, Owo by 8 pm.
Candlelight Procession & World Gyration by the Kegites Club will follow from 8 pm till dawn.
Funeral service for the late Akeredolu will hold on Friday February 23 at St. Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo by 10 am and will be followed immediately by interment which is strictly for immediate family members.
The statement said reception will hold at Mydas Hotel and Resort, Ikare Road, Owo by 1pm.
On Saturday, February 24, Akeredolu Memorial Friendly football match will be played at Akure Township Stadium, Akure by 3 pm.
The burial programme will end on Sunday, February 25, 2024 with Thanksgiving Service at St Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo by 10 am.
