English midfielder Jordan Henderson has made a move to Ajax on a two-and-a-half-year deal, following a short stint with Saudi Arabian club Al Etiffaq.
The Saudi Pro League team has announced the “mutual agreement” to terminate Henderson’s contract with immediate effect, allowing the former Liverpool captain to join the Dutch side on a free transfer.
Henderson had signed a three-year deal with Al Ettifaq in July, but after playing just 19 matches for the team, the club and Henderson have come to an “amicable conclusion” to end their association.
In a statement on social media, the 33-year-old expressed his sadness at leaving Al Ettifaq, but stated that it was a decision he felt was best for him and his family.
Henderson thanked the club and its fans for their support and wished them success in the future.

Meanwhile, Al Ettifaq’s club president, Samer Al Misehal, thanked Henderson for his efforts and wished him well for his future endeavours.
At Ajax, Henderson will wear the number six shirt, and his experience and leadership qualities are expected to be a significant boost for the Dutch team.
Ajax boss John van ‘t Schip expressed his delight at Henderson’s arrival, stating that he is the type of player they were looking for, and can make an immediate impact both on and off the pitch.
He also praised Henderson’s achievements with Liverpool, including winning the Champions League.
Ajax is currently fifth in the Eredivisie, 23 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.
