Ajax has shown interest in acquiring the services of the experienced English central midfielder, Jordan Henderson.
The club is looking for an experienced midfielder to bolster their squad as they seek to re-establish themselves in the Eredivisie.
Ajax is currently sitting fifth in the league, 23 points behind the leaders PSV Eindhoven.
Henderson, who currently plays for Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, seems to fit the bill.
However, a major obstacle in the deal could be the transfer fee and his massive wages.
Reportedly, the England international earns around £350k per week, which is more than five times the salary of Ajax’s top earner, Steven Bergwijn, who is on around £69k (€80k) per week.
Apart from the financial aspect, Al Ettifaq, the Saudi Arabian club, that signed the 33-year-old for around £13m just six months ago, will also demand a transfer fee.
Additionally, since his move to Saudi Arabia, Henderson has struggled to settle down, and the CRUX NEWS reported that he is reportedly keen on returning to the Premier League this month.
While Ajax has expressed interest in Henderson, they face a significant financial challenge in terms of agreeing to a deal.
His current wages and the transfer fee demanded by Al Ettifaq could prove to be a significant stumbling block in the negotiations.
