The Nigeria Men’s Handball National Team had a disappointing start to their campaign at the ongoing Africa Handball Nations Cup in Cairo, Egypt.
They were defeated by their Angolan counterparts with a score of 24-26 in their opening match on Wednesday.
Despite putting up a good fight, the Nigerian team could not stage a comeback in the match.
Coach Solomon Yola expressed his disappointment but remained optimistic about the team’s chances in their upcoming matches.
Yola acknowledged that the team fought hard but could not secure a win.
However, he assured fans that the team would address the lapses in their performance and make the necessary corrections before facing Tunisia in their next match on Friday at 7 pm.
Nigeria is grouped in Group D alongside Tunisia, Angola, and Kenya.
Tunisia, a ten-time champion, defeated Kenya 59-18 in their first game.
The Nigerian team will need to be focused and believe in themselves if they hope to win their remaining games in the tournament.
The 26th Africa Men’s Handball Nations Cup began on Wednesday, January 21, in Cairo, Egypt, and is expected to end on Saturday, January 29.
The tournament features top handball teams from across the African continent.
