The Delta Queens Hockey team put up an impressive performance at the Africa Club Championship, held in Malawi, and have returned to Nigeria after securing a commendable third-place finish.
The team’s exceptional skills and prowess were on full display as they defeated the home side, Genetrix, with an incredible scoreline of 10-0, showcasing their dominance throughout the match.
Throughout the tournament, the Delta Queens played in six games, winning four, drawing one, and suffering one defeat.
Despite facing tough competition from other formidable clubs in Eastern African countries, the team’s resilience and determination shone through, as they competed at a high level throughout the championship.
Coach Adeoye Jacobs expressed satisfaction with her team’s performance, especially against strong opposition.

According to her, “It was a great competition for us, and it added to our experience as a team. If not for the head-to-head decision, we ought to have played in the final. My girls learned a lot, and that is the benefit of competition. Hopefully, we aim to do better by bringing home the trophy next time.”
The bronze medal is a testament to the Delta Queens’ commitment to excellence and their ability to compete at a high level.
The team’s participation in the Africa Club Championship was made possible with the support of the Delta State Government, and Coach Jacobs expressed her gratitude to the commission for their efforts in ensuring the team’s participation in the championship.
As the team returns to Asaba from Blantyre, they look forward to continued success on the national and international hockey scenes, aspiring to bring home more trophies in their future endeavours.
