In their opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Côte d’Ivoire, the Nigerian national football team faced Equatorial Guinea in a Group A fixture.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams sharing the spoils.
The game saw some exciting moments, with Victor Osimhen scoring the equalizer for Nigeria in the 38th minute after Ivan Salvador had given Equatorial Guinea the lead just two minutes earlier.
Despite the Eagles having several opportunities to take the lead, they failed to capitalize on their chances, and the game ended in a draw.

One of the missed opportunities came from Eagles point man, Osimhen, who had a one-on-one encounter with the Nzalang Nacional Guinea’s goalkeeper, but he failed to convert the chance into a goal.
The result placed the Super Eagles in the third position in the group table after one round of matches by all four teams.
While it was an average start for Nigeria, there is still plenty of time for them to recover and qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.
