A member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Adamawa State tragically passed away during the penalty shootouts of the match between Nigeria and South Africa on Wednesday evening.
The deceased, identified only as Samuel from Kaduna State, reportedly died just before the last kick that secured Nigeria’s victory in the match.
According to a witness’s social media post, the youth corper, serving in Numan, Kaduna State, fainted before the winning goal was scored.
Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, he passed away before reaching the medical facility.
The NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Jingi Dennis, confirmed the incident, stating that he was awaiting further details.
Dennis mentioned that the late corps member had expressed discomfort with watching penalty shootouts before collapsing suddenly, as recounted by his colleagues who accompanied him to watch the match.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the General Hospital in Numan.
