Admiral Alison Madueke, a former military governor of Anambra and Imo states, has filed a petition with the Lagos State High Court to dissolve his marriage to Diezani Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources.
In the petition, Admiral Madueke seeks not only the formal termination of their marriage but also a court order to prevent Diezani from continuing to use his last name.
He contends that Diezani’s use of his surname, despite their marriage being legally dissolved, has caused him embarrassment and could lead to unintended consequences, including mistaken liability, especially given the corruption allegations against her.
The couple married on June 30, 1999, under the Marriage Act. According to the petition, Diezani had filed for divorce at the Nasarawa State High Court in Mararaba Gurku in November 2021, citing an irreconcilable breakdown of their marriage.

The court dissolved their marriage on April 13, 2022, and the dissolution became legally absolute.
Despite this, Admiral Madueke claims Diezani continues to use his name without his consent. He asserts that this continued use is misleading and damaging to his reputation, especially as Diezani is undergoing criminal trials in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom for corruption and financial misconduct.
Admiral Madueke’s petition seeks a perpetual injunction restraining Diezani from using his name, emphasizing the need to protect his image, personality, and reputation.
