Nigeria Secures Key Role in Global Oil Industry Leadership
In a significant recognition of Nigeria’s contributions to the global oil sector, Ademola Adeyemi-Bero has been appointed as the Governor representing Nigeria in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and as the Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025.
Confirmation of Appointment
The announcement was made at the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference, as confirmed by Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil). In a statement issued by his media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, Lokpobiri praised Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation as a testament to Nigeria’s active role and influence within the global energy sector.
Advocacy for Balanced Energy Policies
Lokpobiri emphasized that this prestigious appointment provides Nigeria with a crucial platform to advocate for balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the global economy. “This is not just a win for Nigeria but a vital step in ensuring our continued influence in shaping global energy policies,” he stated.
Acknowledgment of Predecessors
The minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the outgoing Nigerian OPEC Governor, for his exemplary contributions to advancing Nigeria’s interests within OPEC. Aduda’s leadership, he noted, has been instrumental in ensuring Nigeria’s active and impactful participation in global energy discussions.
Additional Appointments at OPEC
The conference also saw the appointment of Adeeb Al-Aama as the Governor for Saudi Arabia in OPEC, who will serve as the Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025. The tenure of OPEC Secretary General His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais was extended for an additional three years, beginning August 1, 2025, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to the organization’s objectives.
