Devastating Blast at Sani Uthman Islamiyya School
An eyewitness reported that a student was responsible for bringing the bomb that led to an explosion at the Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari area council, on Monday. This tragic event resulted in two fatalities and two injuries.
Details of the Incident
The school, designed for nomadic education with a modest three-classroom structure, was visited by our correspondent on Tuesday. It was discovered that the student who allegedly carried the explosive had arrived from Katsina State just the day before the incident. The bomb detonated while the boy was reportedly showing it to another student, leading to immediate and subsequent deaths.
Casualties and Survivors
The student holding the bomb died on the spot, while the other child involved passed away later in the hospital. Among the survivors, a young girl is being treated at Kubwa General Hospital, and a boy has been transferred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.
Police Response and Investigation
Following the explosion, the FCT police sealed off the school premises. Photos from the scene emerged, depicting the destruction caused by the blast. According to FCT Police Spokesperson Josephine Adeh, initial reports suggested that three men from Katsina were responsible for bringing the explosives, contradicting the eyewitness’s account.

Official Statements and Actions
Adeh confirmed that a police team, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, responded promptly to the scene, securing it for investigation. She detailed that the explosive device was indeed an IED, with remnants found at the site. The school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, has been detained for interrogation as the investigation unfolds.
Public Advisory
FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, called on the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or items to the authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
