The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers previously stationed at the 23 local government areas in Rivers State.
This move was prompted by recent political events in the state and was conveyed through a statement by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Monday.
Bala Mustapha, the newly appointed State Commissioner of Police, announced that this withdrawal aligns with the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to maintaining neutrality and ensuring the smooth operation of democratic institutions.

The police personnel, who had been deployed to secure local government secretariats, will only return in the event of a crisis or breakdown of law and order, when emergency measures would be put in place to restore calm.
The Rivers State Police Command reassured the public of its continued efforts to maintain peace and order, encouraging residents to stay calm and law-abiding as the situation develops.
