Former Kaduna State Commissioner of Water Resources, Edward Masha, has emerged as the new Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Masha secured a decisive victory in the party’s state congress held at the Kaduna Trade Fair International Complex on Saturday, garnering 2,123 votes to defeat his closest rival, Danjuma Sariki, who received 250 votes.
The congress, which was overseen by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP’s national leadership, also saw Saidu Adamu, a former Commissioner of Information, elected unopposed as the State Secretary. Godiya Lolo was elected as the Women Leader with 2,102 votes, while former Kaduna State House of Assembly member Maria Dogo became the Publicity Secretary after scoring 1,359 votes, defeating Nuhu Makama, who polled 525 votes.
Other key officials elected include Aliyu Bello, the outgoing youth leader, as Financial Secretary, and Barrister Khalid Khalid, who was chosen as the Legal Adviser.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Tanko Beiji, revealed that 2,268 delegates were accredited for the election.
In his acceptance speech, Masha promised to lead the PDP with an inclusive approach, pledging to implement an open-door policy and unite party members. He expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances in the upcoming Local Government Elections scheduled for October, vowing to steer the party to victory.

“We will reach out to all members, reconcile differences, and ensure that everyone is carried along. Our leadership will focus on ensuring the success of the party in the forthcoming Local Government election,” Masha stated.
Outgoing PDP Chairman Hassan Hyet called on all members to support the new leadership, stressing the importance of returning the party to its former strength. He urged unity ahead of the local government elections, building on the party’s recent victories, which include securing three senatorial seats, 10 House of Representatives seats, and 13 House of Assembly members.
