The Nigeria Police Force has reported the arrest of a “fake journalist” claiming to be affiliated with a major television station during Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State. Alongside this individual, two key suspects linked to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), identified as Emotingham Godspower (25) and Farawei Isaac (27) from Ufunama community, were apprehended in a coordinated operation.
Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi shared details in a statement, revealing that the suspects are part of a larger network associated with individuals identified as “Atiku” and a key figure known as “the boss.” They were caught at a guest house in Ekpoma, where police recovered a significant amount of cash and several incriminating items.
Among the recovered items were lists of voters’ names paired with monetary values, pre-filled ballot papers, and a set of counterfeit identification cards.

Additionally, six other suspects Suleiman Abdurahim, Fatima Yakubu, Yusuf Aminat (52), Salihu Lukman (54), and Safianu Saratu (32) were arrested at Aibotse Secondary School in Auchi for alleged vote-buying activities. This group was reportedly found in possession of a large sum of money, weapons, and documents outlining strategies for voter intimidation.
Adejobi emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding the electoral process, stating, “Our team’s meticulous planning and swift action have dealt a significant blow to those seeking to undermine and discredit the electoral process.” Ongoing investigations are set to provide further updates as the situation develops.
