Nigeria’s rapid population growth has been identified as a significant challenge to national planning and economic development.
This was highlighted in a press statement by Ms. Omobonike Adebayo, Devcom Programme Officer for The Challenge Initiative (TCI), issued to THE CRUX.

According to the statement, “the rapid population growth in Nigeria is one of the major challenges affecting national planning and economic development.
The challenges with rapid population growth exacerbate poverty, strain healthcare systems, and impede sustainable development.” With Nigeria’s current population exceeding 200 million and projections indicating continued rapid growth, the situation requires immediate attention.
The statement further emphasized the importance of embracing inclusive and comprehensive data collection and analysis for effective family planning. This approach is essential to manage demographic trends and ensure that resources are adequately allocated to improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.
