Renowned musician David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, has implied that he may leave his eldest child, Imade, in the custody of her mother, Sophia Momodu. This situation arose after Momodu recently filed a counter-affidavit, accusing Davido of being unsuitable to care for their daughter.
In her declaration, Momodu asserted that Davido’s living environment is hazardous for a young girl, referencing the unfortunate death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, in 2022 as part of her argument. The widely circulated document partially reads,
“The applicant cannot properly care for our daughter due to his controversial lifestyle (negative media attention), which would expose our daughter to trauma at her tender age.”
Momodu further pointed out that Davido’s frequent travels for his profession and his association with questionable individuals would negatively influence their impressionable young daughter. She also mentioned that Davido opposed child therapy, has been distant from their daughter, and cohabitates with another woman, which she believes compromises their child’s upbringing. Momodu added that the tragic and suspicious circumstances surrounding Davido’s son’s death indicate that their daughter cannot be safely placed in his care.

Responding to these allegations, Davido posted on X.com on Friday, expressing how the loss of his son continues to haunt him daily and how the constant reminders of this tragedy affect him. He wrote,
“You constantly bring up the death of my child to remind us of this tragedy that haunts us every day.”
Davido also showed his readiness to relinquish the fight for Imade’s custody, stating that she would eventually understand his efforts for her. He added,
“Imade will grow up to see I fought for her. For now, you can have her. P.S.: she won’t be a child forever… enjoy, Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you! All I asked for was ‘joint custody,’ but because it’s Davido, y’all act like y’all can’t read! SMH I’m off this… y’all be blessed, and I pray this never happens to you.”
Previously, Davido had sued Momodu for custody of their daughter, asserting that he had been providing for Imade’s education, housing, transportation, living expenses, healthcare, and travel. In her rebuttal, Momodu claimed that since their relationship ended in July 2022, Davido had refused to contact or support their child. She stressed that Davido had not seen Imade since July 2022 by his own decision and that she had never denied him access to their daughter.
