Jeremy Doku, the young Belgian sensation, has attributed his improved performance to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola but revealed he hasn’t been in touch with Guardiola during the European Championship. Doku, 22, has emerged as a key player for Belgium after a triumphant first season in the Premier League, where he secured the title with City.
“Thanks to City, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of football. Playing alongside top-tier players and competing against elite teams has transformed me. I’ve grown through both the highs and lows,”
Doku stated at a press conference on Monday.
He praised Guardiola’s intense and passionate approach, describing him as a perfectionist.
“Pep’s influence is profound. Even when I felt I performed well, he would point out areas for improvement. I’ve learned a great deal from him. He chose me for my unique abilities and trusts me to make the right decisions,”
Doku added.

However, Doku noted that there has been no communication with Guardiola while he is in Germany for Euro 2024.
“He hasn’t sent any messages, but I’m sure he’s watching the games… or maybe not, he might be off playing golf. But he does care about the players.”
Reflecting on his second European Championship, Doku acknowledged that he is no longer an unknown entity.
“At the last Euro, I was just 19 and mostly there to observe. No one expected me to play against Italy. Now, opponents are more prepared for me, but that doesn’t change my approach. Experience has made a significant difference.”
Belgium, currently tied in Group E, faces Ukraine in their final group match in Stuttgart on Wednesday.
