The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigerian Police Force Intelligence Department announced the successful recovery of 10 firearms taken during the recent tragic incident in Ohoro Forest, Ughelli Delta State. In this incident, police officers were ambushed and brutally killed, resulting in the loss of 13 police rifles to the assailants.
According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this achievement was made possible by adhering to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s directive for improved intelligence gathering and sharing, leading to effective operational deployments.
The statement further detailed that during a coordinated operation, the valiant members of the IRT engaged the suspects in a shootout, which resulted in the neutralization of some suspects and the retrieval of 10 of the stolen rifles, along with other weapons used by the attackers.
Furthermore, the police have apprehended six individuals linked to a notorious kidnapping ring that has been causing unrest in the region.
The statement concluded by noting that the apprehended suspects are currently detained and are aiding the police with their ongoing investigations.
The Inspector General of Police reassured the public that the police force will persist in implementing all essential measures to combat crime nationwide, emphasizing that the safety and security of Nigerian citizens are of utmost importance.
“The force is dedicated to preserving peace and order through vigilant and proactive measures. He reaffirmed his leadership’s resolve to ensure a safe and secure environment for all citizens and expressed gratitude for their continued support and cooperation,” the statement concluded.
