In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Nigeria, Gregory Bortey Newman, popularly known as King Promise, shared an interesting revelation.
The Ghanaian singer-songwriter disclosed that football was initially his first love, and he had dreams of becoming a professional football player.
However, he eventually gave up on his football dreams and pursued music instead.
King Promise revealed that he played as a midfielder in school and was quite passionate about football until he decided to take music seriously towards the end of his university degree programme.
He even admitted that he initially thought he would make it as a footballer rather than as a musician.
However, things took a different turn during his last year in university when he started gaining recognition for his music.

Despite his love for football, King Promise revealed that he prefers music money to football money.
He explained that musical performances are not age-limited like sports, making music a lifetime career.
He stated that music money is lifetime money, and regardless of how old you are, you can still perform.
He even mentioned that he still listens to music from artists who have passed away, but football is a short-term career.
However, he did acknowledge that football is a lucrative sport, but music is his true passion.
