The Nigerian government has announced that Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, will be public holidays to celebrate Good Friday and Easter Monday for the year 2024.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government on Wednesday.
The announcement was conveyed in a statement signed by Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
The Minister called on Christians and all Nigerians to follow the example of sacrifice and love shown by Jesus Christ in his death for humanity’s redemption.
He highlighted that Easter signifies more than its religious importance; it underscores the values of love, forgiveness, and compassion, which are vital for societal unity and peace.
Christians are encouraged to adopt these qualities, which can positively influence Nigeria’s socio-economic progress by promoting unity, reducing conflict, and fostering collaboration among citizens.
Nigerians are also encouraged to practice charity and generosity to improve the living conditions of the less fortunate, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his wishes for a joyful Easter to Christians both in Nigeria and worldwide, the Minister also invited all Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s Administration in its commitment to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for everyone.
