The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, declared on Sunday that churches should continue to support politicians even after they have left office.
This statement was made in Port Harcourt during the birthday celebration at St Mark’s Anglican Church for Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
The ex-governor of Rivers State also called on the clergy to embody their teachings, emphasizing the importance of prayers for politicians.
Wike remarked, “The church must stand firm and not forsake individuals once they are out of office. When we were in positions of power, we supported many churches. However, the narrative changed once we stepped down.
“As God’s representatives, you must demonstrate that you live by your sermons. It’s not just politicians who need this. Continue to support and pray for us without wavering.”
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abass, also praised Chinda for his significant contributions to the legislative body.
He lauded the minority leader, who serves the Obio/Akpor Constituency of Rivers State, as a distinguished member of the National Assembly.
“Honorable Kingsley Chinda is among the finest in the National Assembly, consistently providing excellent representation for Rivers State since his inauguration,” stated the Speaker.
Distinguished guests at the celebration included Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the House of Assembly; Desmond Akawor, the former Chairman of the Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Joe Okocha, the past President of the Nigerian Bar Association; and Victor Giadom, the National Vice Chairman South South of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), among others.
