Russell Crowe, the Hollywood actor, has recently become a part-owner of Leeds United, a football club that is striving to return to the Premier League.
The Whites had announced their takeover by 49ers Enterprises in the summer of last year.
Several big names, including swimmer Michael Phelps and golf superstar Jordan Spieth, had joined in the buy-out.
However, it has now been revealed that the Oscar-winner also has a financial stake in the club.
Leeds United announced Crowe’s summer gig at the Brudenell Social Club in Hyde Park on a social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
In response to this announcement, one user suggested that Crowe “put his money” into League Two outfit Wrexham, which is owned by fellow Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The Gladiator actor then denied any association with Wrexham and instead confirmed that he had put his money into his beloved Leeds.
Crowe, who has a net worth of almost £95million, is a huge fan of the Elland Road club, having been hooked on watching Match of the Day as a kid in his native New Zealand.
He had even considered buying the club in 2015, calling it a sleeping dinosaur at the time.
However, after weighing up the family sacrifice he would have to make, the Beautiful Mind actor decided against it.
The American group, the business arm of the NFL team the San Francisco 49ers, has been gradually increasing its investment in the Elland Road club since 2018.
It follows Wrexham’s transformation and returns to the EFL after Reynolds and McElhenney took over in February 2021.
At present, Leeds United sits third in the Championship table, behind league-leaders Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
With the new investment from Crowe and other investors, the club is hoping to make a comeback to the Premier League soon.
