The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently concluded an investigation into the conduct of Nigeria and all Super Eagles players during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The investigation found that Nigeria and the Super Eagles players did not engage in any wrongdoing during the tournament.
The Super Eagles, who played a total of seven matches during the AFCON, were quite impressive throughout the tournament.
They won five matches, drew one, and only suffered a single defeat.
Nigeria remained unbeaten in their first six matches, only losing the final to host nation Cote d’Ivoire with a scoreline of 2-1.
In contrast to Nigeria, CAF’s Disciplinary Board imposed sanctions on AFCON winners Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, and 2021 champions Senegal.

The Board met to deliberate on various matters, and it found that Cote d’Ivoire and Mali violated competition rules during their knockout round clash on February 3rd.
The Fédération Malienne de Football faced charges of misconduct due to unsporting behavior by its players towards the match official.
As a result, Hamari Traore, one of Mali’s players, was found guilty of unsporting conduct and received a four-match suspension, with two matches suspended for one year.
Additionally, the Malian Football Federation incurred a fine of 10,000 US Dollars.
In conclusion, Nigeria and the Super Eagles players have been cleared of any wrongdoing during the 2023 AFCON, while Cote d’Ivoire and Mali have been sanctioned for violating competition rules.
