Lieutenant General Oladipo Diya (rtd), former Chief of General Staff in the military regime of the late dictator, General Sani Abacha, was on Saturday laid to rest in his hometown, Odogbolu in Ogun State.
The late Lt.-Gen. Diya’s funeral service earlier held at Cathedral of Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Odogbolu.
The deceased military second in command to the late dictator died on 26 March.

Late Diya was disengaged from service after his alleged involvement in a coup plot against late Abacha.
He was convicted by a military tribunal and was awaiting execution when Abacha died in June 1998 subsequent upon which he, alongside other alleged plotters were later set free.
President Bola Tinubu was represented at the funeral by the Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun alongside former head of state, General Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd.), among others.
Draped in Nigeria’s national colours, green-white-green, the coffin had Diya’s service cap and boot conspicuously placed on top, carried into the church for the funeral, followed by family members and his wife of many years, Josephine Diya.
