The Anambra Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that a tragic accident occurred on Saturday on the Asaba stretch of the River Niger Bridge, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old boy.
Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander, revealed this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha on Monday.
According to Irelewuyi, the accident was caused by a truck experiencing brake failure, which then swerved off the road and struck pedestrians on the bridge’s walkway.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and several pedestrians were injured to varying extents.
Irelewuyi extended his condolences to the family of the boy who passed away and expressed his wishes for a quick recovery to those injured.
He also reminded motorists of the importance of vehicle maintenance and urged them to ensure their vehicles are in proper working order before traveling.
“Divers are advised to park their vehicles until they are fixed, when they suspect brake failure, to avoid accidents and loss of lives,” he said.
