Prudence Daniel-Obia, a 36-year-old Nigerian woman expecting triplets, tragically passed away in the United Kingdom on June 21, 2024. Prudence and her husband had moved to the UK in September 2022, full of hope and dreams for their future.
The unexpected loss of Prudence has deeply affected the Nigerian community in the UK, prompting an outpouring of sorrow and condolences. Community members are rallying to support her grieving family during this difficult time.
In a statement on its official X account @NIUKCommunity, the community shared, “Late last year, she became pregnant with her first child. Filled with anticipation for the future, alongside her new immigration status, Prudence was optimistic about the months ahead, eagerly awaiting motherhood, and envisioning a new family life with her beloved husband.”

This tragic event comes months after another Nigerian woman, 37-year-old Chidimma Ezenyili, who worked as a caregiver in the UK, collapsed and died while on duty. Ezenyili, a former lawyer in Nigeria, had been attending to an elderly woman, Ian Hale, when she collapsed in Scott Road.
Despite feeling unwell, she had continued her duties out of commitment. Ezenyili was driven to her workplace by her husband with their three-year-old daughter but collapsed and stopped breathing.
Despite immediate help from the community and emergency responders, she was later declared to have suffered a severe brain hemorrhage and passed away in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
The loss of these two women has brought immense grief to their families and communities, highlighting the sacrifices and challenges faced by immigrants striving for better lives abroad.
