The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has urged sports journalists to prioritize balanced and objective reportage in their coverage of sports in the country.
Gusau made this call on Thursday in Abuja during the finals of the 2023 FCT SWAN 5-Aside football tournament, which marked the climax of the annual FCT SWAN week.
As one of the dignitaries who graced the occasion, the NFF President emphasized the need for improved collaboration between sports administrators and the media.
He stressed that it is important for sports administrators to attend sports events and programs organized by sports journalists, as they also play a significant role in the development of sports in the country.
According to Gusau, he will always support sports journalism in whatever programs they come up with.
He encouraged sports journalists to always be objective and balanced in their reportage of sporting events in the country.
Former Director General of the defunct National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhassan Yakmut, also highlighted the critical role of the media in sports development.
He urged the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to set the agenda for sports development in the country.
Solademi Abdulmajid, the proprietor of Air Warriors Basketball Club of Abuja, emphasized the need for collective effort towards developing sports in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Lucas Istifanus, the FCT Director of Sports, revealed that the FCT sports council is working tirelessly to reposition sports in the FCT.
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) emerged champions of the 5-Aside football tournament after defeating the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) 1-0.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to distinguished stakeholders who have contributed to the growth of sports in Nigeria.
