The 62nd edition of the First Bank Golf Lagos Open is set to take place from November 16th to November 19th at the Ikoyi Club, 1938 golf section.
Over 200 amateur golf players will participate in the tournament, which is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) listed competition that attracts the best amateur golfers from around the world.
The first day of the three-day event will be dedicated to charity as teams from other golf clubs will compete, with the money raised being donated to two charities.
At a press briefing held in Lagos on Thursday, Olusegun Alebiosu, Executive Director and Chief Risk Officer of FirstBank, represented the Managing Director, Adesola Adeduntan, and expressed FirstBank’s commitment to supporting the game of golf.
He described it as an aspirational sport that connects people and provides networking opportunities.
Adeduntan also reiterated FirstBank’s commitment to sponsoring the prestigious golf open, which they have been sponsoring for 62 consecutive years.
This, he said, is a testimony to the fact that the FirstBank brand is rock solid.
The Captain of the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Wahab Sarumi, also applauded FirstBank for consistently promoting the game of golf for the past 62 years.
He expressed his pride in the partnership with FirstBank and thanked them for making use of the facilities at the Ikoyi Club 1938.
Co-sponsors of the event include Coscharis Motors and Guinness Nigeria Plc.
Abiona Babatunde, the General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Coscharis Motors, announced that the winner of this year’s tournament would be going home with a Ford Edge Mid SUV 22 edition.
Bayo Ali, Commercial Director at Guinness Nigeria Plc, said that the Diageo Company is thrilled to be a partner with First Bank and plans to have their Singleton lounge ready for participants to experience their new product.
Ismail Omamegbe, FirstBank’s Head of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, Media and External Relations, underscored the brand’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, saying that FirstBank considered it a high priority.
He emphasized the importance of sports to the youth population and said that the bank remained committed to its responsibility as a brand to society.
It’s worth noting that Emmanuel Ojeabulu, the winner of the 61st FirstBank Lagos Open Golf Championship, has been listed in the WAGR.
