The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the tragic loss of 16 lives in a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday at the Ojoo-Iwo Road axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Mayowa Odewo, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Sector Command of the FRSC, informed the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan that 17 other individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries in the collision.
According to Odewo, the accident involved 35 people, including 14 male adults, 10 female adults, six female children, and five male children. Among them, two individuals escaped without injuries.
The accident, which involved four vehicles, was reportedly caused by a brake failure in a Mack truck with the registration number AKM 548 ZY. The other vehicles involved were a Nissan commercial bus (MUB 20 LG), a Nissan Micra taxi (BDJ 520 YC), and a private Honda Accord SUV (KRD 707 ER).

The injured victims were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police.
The accident vehicles were subsequently taken to Irepodun Police Station, located along the Agbowo-Ojoo Road.
Odewo expressed concern that none of the victims had used seat belts or other protective measures, which could have potentially saved lives. He urged drivers to exercise greater caution and ensure proper vehicle maintenance to avoid such preventable tragedies in the future.
