The Nigerian women’s cricket team played a semi-final match against Zimbabwe on Monday in the ongoing African Games, held at the Achimota Cricket Oval in Ghana.
After winning the toss, the Nigerian team opted to bat first. However, their batting strength could only manage a total of 74 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. In response, Zimbabwe reached the target of 75 runs for the loss of five wickets in just 16 overs, securing a victory of five wickets.
After the game, Blessing Etim, captain of the Nigerian team, expressed her disappointment in their batting performance and acknowledged the effort put in by the team’s bowlers.

She said, “We struggled with the bat but I am more impressed with our bowling. We have so much to work on in terms of batting and we need to quickly attend to the issue as we face Uganda on Wednesday for a third-place spot.”
The Nigerian cricket team reached the semi-finals of the African Games after finishing second in Group A with four points. The team will now play against Uganda for third place, which would guarantee a podium finish. On the other hand, Zimbabwe and South Africa will compete for the gold medal.
