According to Finnish police on Tuesday, a 12-year-old child has died following a shooting at a primary school in the town of Vantaa, which is close to Helsinki.
According to the authorities, two more 12-year-olds suffered critical injuries.
Outside the school, the emergency services detained a 12-year-old student, who ran off after the shooting but was later arrested.
The alleged offender was carrying a licensed handgun owned by a close relative and admitted carrying out the shooting in an initial interview, they added.
The arrest proceeded easily, according to the police.
As police continue their investigations at the primary school in the Viertola district of Vantaa, in the southern region of Finland, the public has been requested to avoid the area.
